Too long in one place (Santa Ponca) so I might as well go somewhere at last??
I know, I'll sail out to the Caribbean! Shouldn't be too bad, 4000Nm and good weather all the way???? Just upgrade the boat, find a crew, get some food and set off!
It seemed like a good idea at the time, so I bought a couple of books, had a read and decided to go for it!
Off to the Caribbean!
Mallorca to Gibraltar, down to the Canaries, then next stop Barbados! Approximately 3900 miles start to finish! Previous longest single voyage 60 miles!
Fit the inverter, Solar Panels, Wind Generator and get more sails! Time money and hassle, but had to be done!
2 - 3 months with people you've never met! Here they are, you can read about how I found them and how we progress! And how we lost one of them before we even set off!

Everythings ready, all has been going well, one last sail to Menorca before setting off! That's what I thought anyway!
Mallorca to Mar Menor (210Nm)
Say goodbye to friends and set off for the Mar Menor on mainland Spain. My last major solo voyage before I pick up crew!
Mar Menor to Gibraltar (358Nm)
Graham, Patty and Michelle join me for the next leg along the costa Blanca and Coste Del Sol, how long can you have the wind and tide against you?
Guest of the week Michelle from Belgium! |
Gibraltar to The Canaries (670Nm)
So far, we've left Gibraltar, full of fuel and wind behind us, all going well! We stopped in Tangiers and Mohammedia, had a bit of rough weather after Mohammedia, then cruised down to Lanzarote with the wind behind us for a few days!
We're here, we made it to our next major landmark on the route and the start of the actual crossing! A week or 2 cruising the Canaries, collect the crew and stock up on food, then we're off!
The Canaries to Barbados (3000Nm)
The usual log of what we did each day!
Spreadsheets of what we ate, provisioning, daily mileages, celestial navigation, SSB frequencies and schedules, weather maps etc.
We caught 20 fish during the crossing. It would've been more, but the freezer was full so we stopped fishing for a week!
The photo gallery is here, evidence of some of the ones we caught, plus some photos of gutting and filleting.
